MiniVan Monday

MiniVan Monday is not something I ever imagined, here...

But look at this thing.

My cousin had one of these things, way back when.
It was the coolest thing ever, to my little kid brain...

It is still pretty far up that list, looking at this thing today.

Adequate

Another invitation to all those folks who want me off the face of the earth.

Just send one of these and I will do all the hard work for you...

Beeping

How much stuff in your house beeps at you?
I feel like our new place has an out of hand beeping situation, honestly.

Why all the beeping?
When did it become necessary to hear from every device in the house?

That refrigerator, sounding off every time the door opens...
Godammit, I opened the door, I know it's open.
You know when it doesn't beep in that open door scenario?
When the door is slightly ajar, the actual time one might appreciate some alert that icebox stands in silence.
(Minus the whir of the compressor, hopelessly trying to keep things cool.)

Dishwasher, sounds an alarm upon completion...
This dryer won't shut up until you physically turn it off, after use.
Coffee maker, signals the end of every obvious cycle.
The water pitcher/filter beeps, telling me to go buy another version of it's internal parts.
Hell, even the water heater occasionally cries out for attention, requiring a technician visit to shut it up.
There are, like, a dozen other things that beep as well, but let's just leave the list at that...

So much needless noise.

I can't wait for the internet of things to progress to the point that I get a text message every time I vainly search for a snack in the deepest depths of the frig, as I actually do that...
So that my phone can sing in beeping chorus, notifying me of things so readily apparent...

And let's just go ahead and put some LED lights in each and every item around us, to flicker a signal that they are powered, inert and/or unplugged, because I need that information as well.
I want to know that my fork is functioning correctly, before, during and between each use.
If if could beep to let me know it is ready to use, that would be great too...

So, Yeah

I was reminded of this video after reading this article, this morning...

It is remarkable how many quotes in that article parrot a given candidate's (brand's) talking point.
Happens on both sides, I know...

Gonna just copy/paste this right here...

Because it is too good to not spread all over.

Noise

I think it's supposed to be a bike video...
I just liked the accompanying noise.

I don't want you thinking I've gone all soft and sappy, here...

Sometimes, you need the face melter.

Simplify

So, I took a break here for a while for a couple reasons...

My life got hyper complicated while at the same time I was desperate to simplify it.

I still haven't figured that out, either side of it, really.
Just doing it.
Winging it.
That is about all I am good at, maybe.

How does any of that relate to this video, you ask?
Well, I am learning some simplifications can complicate your life.
I sold off my old buddy pick up, in that simplification process.
It made sense, sort of, at the time.
One person doesn't exactly need two cars and two motorcycles dedicated to their daily whim.
Right?

I am not convinced...

See, I watch this video and I am reminded of that dirt bike desire that keeps nagging at me.
But you can't ride dirt bikes on the street (ignoring the whole enduro conversation, here).
So, to have that other motorcycle I don't exactly need...
I need a truck.
A truck I don't need, to haul a bike I don't need.

Because I want to do the thing.
Not a possession thing, but a tool thing.
See?
A tool as a means to a sensation, an expression.

I don't know...

Those people look like they're having some fun though.

Cricket

OK, does anybody really understand cricket?

Could somebody explain it to me?

I don't really have any need for understanding cricket, just wondering if this jazz-hands-ball-wag-over-wicket is a normal event in a match...

If so, what is is called?
Is it an offensive or defensive play?
Information along those lines...

Balls

So, sure, wooden balls...

It's funny because balls, right?

I wonder if that thing ever came apart...
There is probably a follow up story about this dude being pelted and brained to death by balls.
At least, seriously welted.

Rule #4 for inventing - never invent something that may lead to your own death, due to balls.

Hmm...

The sort of thing I think about, sitting alone, on a winter evening.

Truck Buggy

Go ahead and put this on the list of things I didn't know I wanted, until I saw them...
I will just call it truck buggy, though I am sure there is some Russian name for it that translates to Iron Bear, or something.

Really, design wise, that futurist look is pretty amazing, on top of the functionality.

Snowmobiles

Never been on a snowmobile.

Which seems odd, now that I think about it, coming from the midwest...
It seemed like people had snowmobiles there, when I was a kid.
Maybe it was just snowmobile suits?
Those were around for sure.  I had one.
Because it was cold in the winter, there...
Cold.

Snowmobiles seem like a fun idea, in the abstract.

Dreaming of scenes like that picture...

Crisp air, travel through landscapes, throttle fun.

It might be my pragmatic side that has held me back from heading to NH and finding some snowmobile rental deal.

First, rental, with damage waiver and cost and whatever trail they happen to have you jump on with every other dipshit non-snowmobile owning tourist.
That experience is not what I want from a snowmobile experience.

Then, when I really think about it, I think of hot and cold.  The hot engine melting the snow on you, from the waist down.  Just enough for that cold damp creep, slipping past zippers.
And the cold, cold enough to have snow hanging around.  Cold enough that any wind stings whatever skin is unfortunate enough to be left exposed...

Probably aughta try it, I guess.
Just to be sure whether the scale tips to the fun or the suck, after a day of it...

(Also, electric snowmobiles seem like a thing that should exist.  I get that all throttle brapping is part of the fun of snowmobiling.  Still, the idea of a semi-silent snow machine really appeals to me.  Quietly slipping between pines, softly crunching in the snow, that sorta sounds more like what the experience should be like, maybe.  Perhaps the technology is getting to the place where that might be possible, without fear of dead batteries after a twenty minute outing?)

Motivation

Interesting thoughts on process.

There may be a motivation to spark up on a new project, here...
I just haven't defined what that project might be.
Yet.

Meanwhile, In Boston

Spring training is just about to kick, down in Florida...
So, what's going on at Fenway?

Absurdity.

Context

There is a whole story behind this random image, which I do not know...

And I feel like I might be missing out.

Trying to provide some educational content, here...

Tuesday, February 9, 2016

Hey

I thought I told you not to tell that creepy lizard friend of yours what we had going on today...

Now he's gonna walk around with us and everything.
Probably weasel into our lunch situation.

Dammit, man...

Blossom

The Blossom Restaurant.
NYC food scene, circa '35...

Isn't that menu fascinating?
There are vegetarian options there.
Curried lamb, I guess folks were eating lamb curry enough to put in on a menu?

What gets me is that section top left.
It's the spendy area.
Right up there, some of the most expensive menu features - pigs head and pig knuckles.

Yeah...

That hasn't quite made it's way into the farm to table fashion yet, has it?
Not so much...

If you know that place, let me know.

(Lifted the pic here, if you can't biggerize it.)

Get it, Springsteen?  The Boss.
Super clever, I know...

Get back to work.
