Group B

More Group B goodness!

Bad Ass?

Maybe, maybe not.

Considerations-

First off, who hangs out with another dude-friend around the house shirtless?
That is just weird.
Put a shirt on, man...

Additionally, sandals with socks?
Dude, seriously...
That dude has got to be the one to keep an eye on.

Well, I have made that transition to shitty rattle can paint job Sportster guy...

It was only a matter of time, right?

Footsie

Hey, why did that footpeg stick out so much?

I don't know.  I never used that outside inch+ or so.  I was always in, to cover the brake.

Fuck it.  Cut it...

Sure, it looks odd and does not match the other side.

It works though...

I may have to cut some off the other side, on principle.

The primary sticks out, over there.  There may be some fat to trim, just because.

SOTU

Yes, there has been a fair amount of political jabbering here before.
Yes, I am paying attention to that stuff still.
I am also about as disgusted by the whole deal as I could be.
So I am just not talking about it...

I do want to mention, however, that though the Occupy movement which has been largely discounted and generally reported on as a mix of public nuisance and circus sideshow -  has provided the key talking points for nearly every national political figure speechifying in recent days, one way or another.
I don't think those politicians will actually do anything to help out much of the 99%.
Just something to think about the next time you see some Occupy coverage that only reports on the traffic delays some protesters caused.

Exhausting Cont'd

After a lot of trimming, looking, thinking and repeating...

I think I am about satisfied with this.

Things are about as tight as they can get, while still leaving room for mounts and passenger footpegs.

I  will stare at it some more, before fitting gaps and starting welds.

I think I like it, though...

What is more stunning?

A - This turbine (jet) engine powered Indy race car from 1967.

It kind of makes me feel off balance.

Cardboard

Remember that habit I had, engineering parts for the T with the cardboard from cases of beer?

Well, some habits die hard...

Alloy plate and tube is on the way, to make a sprocket cover and some stand off supports.  Just trying to figure how to sort that out.

Ahahahaha!

You are looking at a picture of a shirtless Alex Trebek.

Hah! Trebek looker!

No, I will not explain why I have a picture of a shirtless Alex Trebek, or why I felt to need to share it with you.

This may be the start of a new post series, Trebek Tuesdays.

Not fully decided on that one...

Buttoned

You didn't think I would let dumping a lifter on the floor bum me out, too long...

Right?

So, this is in place with only some bloody knuckles and heart ache.  The only real delay was making sure I remembered where those cam dots were supposed to be.  Most of the heavy lifting was already done.

That misaligned locating tab and I talked with the vise and the mallet.  Things got sorted out with some coercion.

That little hook at the front is not the norm for cam cover chops, I suppose.

I think about things, as you know if you are here much.  Usually, dudes just cut straight along the bottom.  That is great for them, but I think the curves on the front of the case seem unresolved that way.  Thus the little hook. All the lines get to meet up, before they stop.

Odd, maybe.  It just makes more visual sense to me.  Those curves are distinctly Sportster, in my head.  Disrupting them makes it seem like trying to make it look like a big twin, sorta but not really.  So, I did that...

There will be a sprocket cover/heel guard over that ugly belt bit.  I just needed to see what this looked like before I put any heavy thought into that.  There is a kind of over-all vision I have going, but sometimes you have to let things reveal themselves before you react.

One step at a time...

I am so compelled by this machine.

Oops

I have some extra parts here...

Pulled out a cam, while swapping on this cover.  I will probably need that later.

Oops.

Anyway, I wanted to see what this might look like.  Here are a bunch of loosely fitted parts.  Really loose.  Need to reread the cam install section of the manual, I guess.

Things wouldn't have just bolted on, anyway.  That locating tab has definately moved, by about a quarter inch.  So, I need to decide what to do about that.  Right now, I lean towards cutting it off.  I can ponder that while reading about cam orientation, I suppose.

Two steps forward, two steps back, or something like that...

What's Cooking

Karen is big on naming things, but I am not sure what it is...

A Mexican casserole?

Do I make casseroles?

Not sure...

Corn tortillas, ranchero refries with corn, veggie meat cooked in some Chinese bean sauce, lots of cheese, enchilada sauce and whatever else.

This was a night or two, though...

Man, I am hungry.

Moonrise Kingdom

Well, this looks entertaining...

Feeling Cool?

Right.

Shocking

So, I have spent a lot of time making this thing sort of low...

I just swapped on the last shocks I ran, which are about stock for the low models, or a bit lower.  Maybe a few inches of travel, verses no real travel from the last ones that were there.

I did the shock swap just because it was something I had planned on doing for any real road trips.  I know these longer shocks work...

Anyway, I think I love these with the new exhaust.  It sort of becomes a sporty Sporty.  Sort of a desert sled vibe.  A rough city bruiser.

Totally digging this look...

Not cool, in a really cool way.

Unimog

I have no real justification for this, but I think I should probably have a Unimog.

Not unlike this one, set up to go camping with. Real practical like, you know. An "end of the world" sort of rig, that could in fact drive to the edge of the world...

Of course, I don't really do much camping these days. I admit it. Probably because I don't have a trail donkey to carry all my stuff.

Or a bitchin' Unimog camper...

Exhausting Cont'd

Lacking a desire to watch the People's Choice Awards, I got to dealing with my exhaust situation.

Just roughing out ideas, this is no finished deal...

You might get the idea though.

Yes, I am standing on my tool box looking at it.

Sometimes, some distance helps. I cannot roll it outside at the moment, because I am too lazy. Just trust me...

I will make it cool.

There are thoughts for that sprocket area, and the new cam cover will go on soon. Then maybe this will all make more sense...

It will make more sense to me, at least.

Anyway, more cool coming...

Gone Fishing

I have noticed that all of the really cool motorcycle blog things have been posting up random fish related images, in addition to the usual naked woman pictures.

Now, because I also want to seem cool and hip...

Here is a picture of some exposed female boobies and fish like things.

This is some high art kind of stuff here, not just some scan of some old magazine article about nudists going fishing. Because I try to keep it classy in this deal, you know, real classy.

Now that we have that out of the way, I will get back to posting my usual bull shit.

Frankenthaler

Just learned that Helen Frankenthaler passed, a bit ago.
Missed that bit of news...

She is one of my favorite abstract expressionists.
Had her own thing going, her own palette.
All loveliness.
Go see some her work in person, this monitor won't do her justice.

Options

Well, now that I think about it...

Doesn't sound that bad.

Exhausting

So, my plan of modifying some after market pipes is not looking good...

The thinking was that I might use these with some shorty muffs and call it good.

I kinda hate it though.

There are bits I like, but mostly no...

I was trying to avoid full on exhaust fab.

Not sure I can get around it.

Sure this will not satisfy me though.

You can probably hear my heavy sigh, if you listen...

Vancouvria

OK, so this post may just be an inside joke...

First, you probably need to live, or have lived, in Portland.
Then, you need to have knowledge of the show Portlandia and maybe watched a few episodes.

With that, this is funny.

If you have never heard of the show Portlandia, you should figure that out.
Or not.
It is funnier after hanging out in Portland...
Probably funny, either way.

That means getting to a winter makeover, peeling of some stuff, making and modifying other stuff.

New Hampshire

And the candidates trudge ahead into New Hampshire...
I would rather watch this, than hear anything about it really.
There is more value to this video than...
Well.
Anyway.

I just read that there are a number of state legislators in New Hampshire sponsoring a bill that would require any new state law to provide grounds for its necessity by quoting the Magna Carta. Do you remember reading the Magna Carta? It is perhaps a bit, you know, dated. That might give you a read on what the hell is going on in New Hampshire politics.
Our whole governance apparatus is so fucked...

Remind me again how states like Iowa and New Hampshire are the crucial states, providing a representation of average voters, in this nomination process?

Twiki Tuesday

I will readily admit that I dug this version of the Buck Rogers television show.
You know, I was a kid - it had robots and space ships and hot chicks in tight, shiny space leotards...
That pretty much fills out the list of things that would motivate me to watch a television show to this day, now that I think about it.

Anyway, two things about this show.-

Rainbows, they were every where. Flags, uniforms, all over.
Not in a gay way. Rainbows weren't all gay, at that time, just kinda.

That robot sidekick, Twiki, had a penis shaped head and nobody talked about it.
Just look at that noggin, man. Yeah, penis.

Unrelated thing that always bugged me about this robot, it stuttered. Why would you not just reprogram your robot so it wouldn't stutter?
Maybe, in the future, a person just does not have time to do anything but pick up their shiny, spandex, rainbow bedazzled space suits from the cleaners and cruise for the hot intergalactic ladies. No time for robot maintenance. Nobody mentions that the robots have dick heads, in the future...

Iowa

So, am I the only person really stoked for Iowa right now?

They are getting sooo much attention, which is awesome. We only really talk about Iowa when there is some catastrophic flood or college sporting event...
And every four years, of course, when the nations most kiss-assy politicians descend on the state like vote whoring locusts.

Iowa.
Thanks for taking it up the butt, for the rest of us.

By which I mean, thanks for living with those fuckers for the past month or so.
Sure, we get to hear all about it. Every slack jawed political analyst, who has not suffered a horrible facial disfigurement, has been on some kind of news show spitting up about how important this moment is in the campaign.

But Iowa, you are there living with them. The candidates.
I assume you have lots of farms, Iowa, so the elephant stench might be less offensive to you than the rest of us. Still, you have my sympathy for enduring all of the dunderheaded attack ads, talking points pissers, robo-calls and diner visits of those slimey, invasive fuckers, their staffers and the herds of imbecile journalists.

With any luck, a few of the contemptuous candidates you are harboring will be discouraged enough to slink back to their home state fiefdoms and shut the fuck up, after your goofy caucusing.

Hopefully, Iowa, you can weed a few out for the rest of us.
Because, frankly, I am tired of hearing about the whole lot of them...
