Dress Code

This week I am instituting a new dress code for the home office.

Things have gotten a little too casual, around here...

Everybody who walks on four legs has to wear a suit, between 9AM and 5PM.

Shaving will remain optional, as I am too lazy and shaved cat faces might freak me out.

That is all.

The Nissan Tama

This might be an Earth Day post...
It may just be be rambling.

That car, there, is the 1947 Nissan Tama.

It is cute, isn't it?

It is an electric car.

From 1947.

The Tama had a top speed of 22MPH and a range of about 40 miles.

Which, when you think about it, is not much worse than the newest crop of electric cars. Sure, the new ones go faster. The range isn't really that much better...really.
Hell, the brand spankin' new Nissan electric car has a range of 73 miles.

I have a tiny computer in my pocket that lets me know how to get to the store by chatting with satellites in space, that can also receive various formats of communications and allow me to watch a goddamned movie if I want to...

You would need a warehouse full of electronics shit to do that in 1947.

Why hasn't the electric car seen similar progress in the intervening sixty years?

Anyway, either way, why not have a new set of safety rules for electric cars. The battery life is the big bugger right? It takes more energy to move around a heavier car, right?
Why not allow electric cars to be tiny little things, like this Tama?

Bag the mandated safety gear, shave off a thousand pounds of stuff. Make them minimal?
Sure, there could be more risk for the occupants...but you are helping to save the world.

Some of my interest is a styling thing, too.
Hell, if there were Leaf drivetrain bits under that Tama and I could buy it today...well, I would think about it.
That is a lot closer than my conversion to an electric car than anything any manufacturer has offered.

There are other factors that have kept me out of an electric car, but if I am buying a car then I don't want to hate looking at it.

I am just pondering...what if we made them smaller and lighter, used less stuff to make them, so they could be sold for less, so it would take less energy to run them, so there would be less scrap when folks wanted a new one?
Doesn't that make sense?

I am wandering now...

My point is that we, collectively, suck.

This little car is half as good as this company's current offering - and it is sixty years old.

If we are going to only slow down the active destruction of the planet we live on, all of us are gonna need to average better than that.

It Is Official

We have started a band...

I got these matching shirts for us and everything.

Turds of Misery will rawk!

Worlds Fair

I actually went to this Worlds Fair...

I did not remember the space penis in front of a rainbow logo, however.

I think I had a t-shirt, with that logo.
I probably wore it continuously for a year...

You get a t-shirt with a rainbow-space-wiener-tower on it, you gotta rock that steeze.

Focus

Alright, man.
She is talking to you, just be cool.

Listen to what she is saying, be cool.
Look at the your shoe...
Look at the tire.

Need, to answer question.

Just go from looking at the tire - to looking at her eyes...
No stops along the way, look at her eyes.

Ahhwowwa.

Shit.
Busted...

Startled

Something like this rolled past me this morning as I was out walking the dog...

Took me by surprise, honestly.
You don't see many cars older than the 80's in this city.

Catching a glimpse of some old two-toned iron loafing down the street before you've had a cup of coffee, well, it can leave you wondering if it actually happened.
It wasn't tricked out or wild, it was a quiet, stock, four door...
Passing through my morning fog.

Sorta made the day seem better...

Honey Badger

Yo, Honey Badger don't care about what you think...

Honey Badger says it's Friday, so that's reason enough to get fucked up.

History

CHEATED from andrew pry ortega on Vimeo.

Philadelphia is a city full of history...

As a resident here, I think it's important to try and understand the foundations this city is built upon.

Once known as a city of skateboarding, in the 90's, this video reveals a bit of that history...

Warning: This video contains graphic content, including - nudity, offensive language, graphic violence, images of open wounds, overuse of fish eye lenses, injuries, fireworks, vomiting, asinine behavior and some killer skating.

Pretty much everything that makes a good skate video.

Yeah, he had a Mini too...

Working On It

Work on the baboonbots is still going slow...

Kinda bumming me out.

Branson has gotten all distracted with all his ocean and space stuff and as such has become a less than reliable source of funding for my bid to take over the world.
He wants to put those stupid logos on everything, too.
Whatever...

He can go look at fish all day.
I am going to have absolute command over the freaking world!

Shortly...

Anyway, shit can get rather laborious in the laboratory while assembling proto-mutant-robo-monkey-bots.

Lots of little, fussy experiments, the wiring, all of that shit will drag you down.

Sometimes, it is good to take a day off, load up the monkeys, grab some brews and some ammo...head out to the country and blow off some steam.

The Creeper

Dexter from Stéphan Angoulvant on Vimeo.

Well, that is a very stylish device to get underneath ones vehicle.

Fancy LED lights, magnetic tool perches and a parking break all in a stylish laminated wood chassis...very chic...

Two points-
The person who could afford to buy it really are never going to get under their car, are they? I mean, even if they could, most cars these days are too low for that without some ramps...not counting SUV's, which I don't think ever actually get serviced anyway.

The person who would actually use this thing is probably more likely to toss an old scrap of cardboard on the ground, fill a shirt pocket with tools and have at it...speaking from personal experience.

So, nice design exercise, I guess?

I am not in the market for designer garage accessories.
There is probably some Porsche dude, with a tiled garage floor and stainless cabinets that needs one of these...to lean against the wall next to the shelf of scale models of his actual cars...

The best thing about my cardboard version is that it also catches the oil drips, too...
Double the practical uses.

Ramps

Maybe it is an east coast thing, but since I landed here I hear a lot about ramps...

Every spring, the food folks around Philly seem to go mad for ramps.

Now I grew up on this half of the continent, and I don't remember anybody but friends with skateboards talking about any damned ramps, come spring...

These foodie fuckers just won't shut about about their ramps, though.
Purees, broths, sauted, poached...

I feel like I might be missing out on some great thing...
But only sorta.
I don't have a ramp hook up here and I haven't seen 'em at any of my usual food purveyors.

They are just a sort of spring onion, leek tasting kinda thing, right?
So...

What is the big deal?

What is up with the ramps?

Sprung

I think spring may have sprung.

Time to get on it...
