Slurpeeing
I might have been more prepared for actual snow...
Instead we are coated with an inch of runny, flavorless Slurpee slush.
Not pretty...

Don't Occupy Oakland
I am pretty sure you have heard about the whole cop/protester clash in Oakland by now. How about that shit, man?
That is how the OPD roll, I gotta say. They do not mess around.
They're rough, aggressive cops in a dangerous city. Their relationship with the populace is, at best tense, due to a few decades of extreme racial tension, gang warfare and a shoot first reputation.
The bit with the tear gas canister shot at a protesters head, that is pretty harsh...
Of course, the dude was a vet too. Back from a couple tours in Iraq, a Veteran for Peace member.
Got his skull fractured by a projectile shot at him...after coming home from a literal war.
There is a pretty thorough accounting over here.-
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/blog/2011/oct/26/occupy-oakland-protests-live
And yeah, I am getting news on an event in Oakland via a UK news source.
Somehow, I imagine the story might be less biased than what I might read in the Wall Street Journal...
I also have to say that you can't convince me this was accidental. Cops know what happens when they launch those canisters level into a crowd. People get hurt. The OPD have also straight up lied about the use of flash-bang grenades in the incident.
Oakland police are also not unpracticed in crowd/riot control. The city has one or two big protests a year, usually in response to a black kid getting off'd by a cop.

Truckin'
If I ever get to that place where I am a crazy hermit, who lives in the desert (note- this is an actual life ambition)I think I am going to need something like this...
You know, it'll be a long, bumpy ride to restock the beer fridge.
A truck like this would make it fun, at least...

Burger
I don't even remember the last time I had a burger...
Let alone a monster style triple double, my order of choice at the old In-N-Out.
Three weeks, at least. Maybe a month or longer?
Fuck, I think I am due a burger.
Just a burger...
Not some artisan cheese, grilled radicchio, bison burger on a fccaccia roll that costs sixteen dollars.
Just a burger, damn it.

Costume Ideas
With Halloween right around the corner, I thought I would pass along some costumes ideas. Nobody wants to show up at the party and be the third gal dressed as a sexy nurse, after all...
So here are some ideas for you ladies.
I am particularly compelled by the sexy Hungry Man dinner idea, myself.
Guys, uhm, just get a fake mustache and go as...
Ah hell, you are grown ass men, figure it out.

I have been thinking the other options are bad.
Here at prettynotgood, we have chosen to support the Walken 2012 bid.

Ramen
I have been on an instant noodle kick as we head into fall.
Odd, I know.
I figured out how to sort of cook before entering college, so I never had that whole ramen noodles for months experience.
There have been a few times in life that three dollars for a weeks worth of food was the budget, and I will admit to a few ramen alfredo moments during that period...
(Note, ramen alfredo is the noodles, of course, cooked and drained...you can score butter packets and creamer from McD's in the AM and the fake parmasean from a pizza place. Mix that all together and it's just like being in Italy...a really sad, depressing, broke-ass version of Italy.)
But most of that shitty cheap ramen is just that, shitty and cheap.
That is not what I am talking about, at all...
I have been keeping my eyes peeled in the Asian section of the grocery of just heading to the Asian grocer for some random instant noodle lunch options.
Looking for that labels with minimal English and mentions of spice.
I have got my random cache of spices and seaweed to doctor things up and toss in an egg every now and again...
It is a pretty decent alternative to the same old again option, for lunch.
I can get a little rut going pretty quick, with sandwiches and what not...
There always seems to be be one crucial ingredient missing, whenever I go for a sandwich option here anyway. Really, you have got to keep a lot of shit on hand to make a decent sandwich. You know? Bread or various breads, whatever you want in it - so meats and cheeses, two or three types of vegetables probably, various condiments and garnishes. All that crap is perishable, too, so you need to keep track of not just how much is around but also when it will need to be consumed or tossed by. Plus, you probably want some chips or other fancy snack to fill out the plate, right?
You gotta unload the refrigerator to make one. Then all that slicing, toasting, stacking, repacking, cleaning and putting shit away.
It's supposed to be the quick and easy option, right?
Sandwiches are a lot of goddamned work...
So yeah, I am not sure why you needed to know any of that.

Freedom Machine
I just realized the it has been a moment since you got to see the deal, here...
Winter is coming, so shit is lining up for a change, but here is my deal.
The East Coast style creeps into my thoughts.
The Nor Cal shows.
Maybe a layer of Ohio influence, too.
Trying to keep the business, well, business...
Winter plans call for more business, more basic.
More exposed mechanical, less bullshit.
Maybe a bit more shiny...

Don't Bro Me
Should I be bothered by this?
I have a neighbor who is always bro-ing me...
I just walked past him...
"hey Chris..."
"hey, whats up brah..."
He never actually uses my name, always some variation of bro.
Fuck, what manner of courtesy is that?
Bro?
Have we ever hung out, really?
No.
We sorta know each other in the way you do when you live a few doors from one another...
Not in any genuine sense, for sure.
Not in some brotherly love manner, by any means.
Don't bro me if you don't know me, damn it...

Fishy
Hey, am I the only one who thinks salmon tastes different?
Like it has somehow different than salmon from a few years ago?
Granted, a few years ago I was living in the Pacific Northwest and was able to score some pretty fresh fish.
I don't think that is it, though...
I am right here on a different coast, in a major city. I don't quite accept that the time from swimming salmon to chewing salmon is all that different. Maybe a day or two...
And yes, I am talking about the same types of salmon. I do know the differences between Atlantic, Pacific, line caught, wild and farmed.
I would like to think it is the fish I am best versed in...
But it seems different, tastes different to me.
I always buy wild over farmed, and always base the east/west decision on freshness.
Cooking may vary spice some, but my standard simple salmon is awfully basic
Something about the fat tastes different to me, in nearly every bit of salmon I have had in the past three years...
Anyway, in related news, they are looking at green-lighting genetically modified salmon.
The Food and Drug Administration has completed its highly-anticipated evaluation of the environmental impact of the world’s first genetically-engineered (GE) fish for human consumption, and written a document supportive of its commercialization on the U.S. market, according to a person close to the review process.
You can read more about that over here...
I am not sure I quite like that idea.

Conspiracy
Now I am not one to get off on conspiracy theories of any kind.
Sure, some shit is not as simple as the story you hear. The world is complicated, things happen, unseen forces factor - but grand conspiracy seems more wishful story telling most times.
Except for the Godzilla/Titanic attack...
That is the only reasonable explanation.

The Old Dipper
This is pretty damned funny...
Darrel Waltrip, you know from NASCAR-go-fast-turn-left scene, takes a drive with one of the Aussie sedan series guys.
You might imagine his experience as a successful race car driver would keep him from screeching like a little girl, when taking a ride around a track...
You would be wrong.

Studebaker
I have probably seen this clip a hundred times...
After watching it again, I have a new question?
What is up with that Stude seen in the ramp portion?
Man, shoot a board on a bail and you could really mess up that Studebaker...

Taco Tuesday
Just a reminder of the importance of this day...
It is motherfucking Taco Day!!!
You didn't forget, did you?
I should hope not.
Taco Day is right up there with remembering some other kind of oddly important random day which is supposed to mean something.
Like Groundhog Day...
Only on Taco Day - there are goddamned tacos!

Burma
Ever try food randomly?
We do, on occasion and this weekend was one of those...
Burmese food.
Burmese?
Yeah, that was my reaction as well. The delivery side made it perhaps easier to get on board with, but it was a pretty nice surprise.
We ordered in from Rangoon and I quite enjoyed it.
It makes sense, I suppose, the general area that was Burma is surrounded by a lot of cooking I dig. Influences from both India and Thai/Vietnamese cooking are right there, Chinese leans into some dishes too, but there is a distinct independence to the food as well...
So, if you see a Burmese joint I say try it.
