Sidekicks

What was the deal with animal sidekicks back in the day?

Clyde here.
BJ and his chimp Bear.
Maybe that dog that was in that one movie with Tom Hanks.
Lassie and maybe Benji, to a lesser degree.

I am thinking a Clyde costume will be my default for Halloween, going forward.  Mainly so I have an excuse for punching people for being twats.  Just need a sidekick, for my sidekick costume, that says "Right turn." at appropriate moments.

Yeah, I just did a sidekick role reversal, right there.  I am self-centered.

Also, where do you land Chewbaca in this sidekick conversation, for you?

Mel Brooks reduced him to a talking dog in Space Balls, but he sorta had his shit together in the movies in spite of only being able to yell three sounds to communicate.  Do you think of Chewbaca as Hans Solo's smart, hairy pet or as his own fully developed persona?
I mean he blasted bad guys with some lazer-crossbow thing and fixed spaceships...
Fixed spaceships.
Like a goddamned rocket scientist.

I need some more coffee...

Sensuous Steel

Huh...
Been wondering what some Nashville buzz was about, lately.

(I mean beyond general chatter about how great my kin folk are.)

There is Sensuous Steel show there, at the moment...

So if you are there, go look at this stuff.

This Delahaye, for example, I eyeballed a red cousin of this at the Blackhawk Museum for a good thirty minutes, at least.  They are gorgeous.
They have Edsel Ford's personal, project speedster/special, which has a tiny shrine built around it - in one corner of my addled brain.
And there is some other stuff, that is also extra special but I will gloss over...

It's at the Frist, whatever that is, for a couple more weeks.

No Place to Go

I really have no need for something like this...
No real destination in mind that would require this sorta rig.

But I am pretty sure if I had this kinda off roading micro camper, I could come up with something.

Something like this...

Privacy

Seems like there is a new story every day about how we are all being tracked, monitored, recorded, filmed or generally eyeballed by some entity.

It's everywhere...

And I don't hear many folks actually talking about it.  Not talking about editorialists or newscaster, here.  I mean like people I actually know, or have conversations with.

This guy delivers a positive explanation on why privacy is important, while talking on a related topic here...

And let me just say one other thing: sometimes it is hard to convey why privacy is so important, because it’s kind of ethereal. But I think people instinctively understand the reason it’s so important, because they do things like put passwords on their email accounts and locks on their bedroom and bathroom doors, which reflect a desire to keep others out of certain spaces where they can go to be alone. That’s a way of making clear that they value privacy. And the reason privacy is so critical is because it’s only when we know we’re not being watched that we can engage in creativity, or dissent, or pushing the boundaries of what’s deemed acceptable. A society in which people feel like they’re always being watched is one that breeds conformity, because people will avoid doing anything that can prompt judgment or condemnation. This is a crucial part of why a surveillance state is so damaging — it’s why all tyrannies know that watching people is the key to keeping them in line. Because only when you’re not being watched can you really be a free individual.

Yeah, that whole NSA Prism action is kind of a really big deal.
Security cameras usually don't  bug me much.
Did you know many big retailers are tracking your smart phone around their stores, recording your movements?
Do you know who is tracking your computer while you click to and from this web page?
Cops and traffic cams automatically shoot license plate pic's for no good reason, as we drive past.  Why?

It's relentless and expanding...

Super creepy.

Networking

So, I will tell you honestly that all this relocating can be a challenge on the social side.

You know, I get older, people my age got kids, I do weird stuff that most folks don't appreciate or understand.
Plus, I am moody and really don't generally dig on people.

So establishing any kind of social network in each new city is genuinely a hard deal...

But, you know, this seems totally legit.

Pretending

Let's pretend I don't miss SF at all...

Seasons

Fall is upon us, it seems.
Not full on fall, but the switch has been quietly flipped, I am pretty sure...

Those Canuck geese honking overhead are a sure tell.

That means that the season after fall is around the corner.
I am not exactly ready for that...

I wonder where one can find one of these sheep skin outfits, these days.

Cowboy Up

Beyond some western style shirts I ain't so cowboy...

But if I were to, you know, cowboy up...that seems like a pretty good start at it.

Oh, I guess I do own a pair of cowboy boots.

Motorbike

Oh, hey...
I know that dude.

It's Happy Chichester singing about motorcycles...and it's a happy kinda song.

Which, I guess, you might expect from a guy named Happy...
I mean, I don't think his name actually is Happy.  It's Charles or something.
But he is a pretty happy guy.

Sunday Drive

Really, you are gonna take the 405, to 118, through Moorpark?
That stretch on East LA Avenue is awful.

Why not take the 10 over to the 1, then cross over on 27 or down by Decker Canyon?
You'd at least get to enjoy the trip...

Still In Progress

Yeah, I am still working on taking over the world.
So, you know...

Just finished up some details on this little project, which is turning out pretty awesome.
I am not gonna tell you what this is, but it's gonna be good.
It's a surprise.

Hint - it has a bit to do with gravitational fields.

But, you know, since that whole end of the world crap turned out to be fake, I have lost a little steam on this whole global domination thing.
That end days stuff kinda gave me a schedule to work towards, a motive...

And it's summer.
Some days I just want to take the submarine out to the middle of the ocean, surface and look at the waves rolling by...

Since those fake final days passed, I have been doing some soul searching on the subject of taking over the world.

I don't really like people all that much, so maybe I am not cut out for that aspect of the deal.  There are a lot of people in the world and if I take it over, then that could sorta be a chore.  I am not sure how responsible I should be to the well-being of the world's inhabitants, should I actually succeed in wholesale supremacy, you know?  Not a lot of examples or guides to study up with subject.

Anyway, still at it, even with  waning motivation and questions on "what if" I press on.
At this point, I guess it's more about seeing if I can take over the world - more than the planet crushing power aspect of it all.

You know, something to do...

Work from Home Wednesday

It does have some advantages...

Hipster

So, my mind was wandering earlier.
It does that.  A lot.

My l'il bean is a jelly fish adrift off the shores of Hawaii.
Aimlessly floating.
Feeding.
Stinging things.

And, you know, Magnum PI lives in Hawaii.
(Sure, he is real...in my mind.)
So, I was contemplating Magnum PI and it occurred to me...

Magnum PI is the base innovator of current "hipster" men's fashion.

Let's not get into the linguistic hipster discussion or definition process, just hear me out.

Wacky, brightly colored shirt - right there.
Tight jeans - yup.
Kinda army surplus belt - check.
Low top tennies/top siders - always.
Giant old school camera accessory - present.
Moustache - accounted for.
Fondless for tank tops - oh yeah.
Dude short shorts - yes.

Seriously, the only real difference I can spot is the colorful RayBans trending with the newly urban, art schooling, beat making, pastey, male youths, as opposed to MPI aviators
The rest is hard core Magnum PI.

Two Wheels Tuesday

Yup.  It's a motorcycle...

Got Dunkin

Dunkin is the deal in these parts...
I am still not sure I get it, these days.

Ordering coffee, sure, I got that.
But it is oddly difficult to get a doughnut at Dunkin Donuts...
They got yer disgusting turkey bacon, back slapper flatbread wrap, sure.

Where is the damned cinnamon spice simple goddamned Dunkin defining doughnut though?
I don't want that nesty two day old crueler, sitting in the back...

C'mon, place with doughnut in your fucking name!

(I will admit to getting down with their odd breakfast tater-tot things, I suppose.)

Anyway, poster boy seems to have his own deal with Dunkin going on.

Axe Cop

I forgot to mention that beyond your chance to revel in the joy of my existence, last Saturday was great for another reason...

Axe Cop.

It's a new show, on Fox.  Normally I couldn't care less about some bullshit television show, but this one is pretty awesome.
Super-hero axe wielding cop, absurd characters, zombies, dinosaurs...

The stories are written by a five year old kid, so that level of imaginative genius is steering the whole vision.

It's really good.

More here...
