Chips and Dip
This may place me in a certain area and era of development, but man I love some chips and dip.
Growing up, you knew it was a deal if there were chips and dip at a given event.
Not super fancy, but deserving of some extra effort...
Now I am not talking about tortilla chips and salsa. That might count as chips and dip in some circles, but that was foreign food in my neighborhood.
Hell, I am not sure anybody but the Spanish teacher at my high school knew what guacamole even was, in that town...
I didn't.
But some wavy cut potato chips and some sour cream mixed with French onion soup mix, now that wasn't international, that was just how it was done...
The chips, ideally, are the aforementioned ripple cut. It allows for maximum leverage in the dip scooping, you know. If the chips were made by a company that had twice as many consonants in the name as vowels, that was a good sign.
Dip, well that could be more artistic. More artisanal. People had there own favorite recipes gleaned from the newspaper or some magazine. Maybe, from a dairy association ad. Or from the soup mix company advertisements, as I am pretty sure those never got used for actual soup making.
People seem to have forgotten about chips and dip.
Maybe it was just me...
My instinct pulled me back to them recently. Perhaps a backlash to the whole foodie, high brow scene.
The honesty and simplicity appeals to me, as of late.
Salty, fried fatty things used as tools to scoop flavorful fatty stuff. That is really a nouveau foodie thing right there - and chips and dip have been about doing that for decades...
Your doctor may not agree with my advice, but go get yourself a bag of ripple chips and some onion dip.
It will be worth it...
You can always go back to the flax seed pita/bagel crisps with organic kale Greek yogurt and white bean whatever stuff. There still gonna be there for you...
Just pointing out that the savory indulgence of chips and dip. Simple chips, simple dip.
Maybe bad for you long term, but really pretty damned good in the moment...

Source Material
Paul's Boutique.
If it is not on your favorite albums list, we probably just shouldn't talk to each other.
Really.
Anyway, not to go full geek out on the thing, I stumbled across this playlist...
The songs and then the songs sampled to make the songs.
I am the type to read citations in the back of books, so this appeals to me...

Another
Another trip around the sun completed...
Whoopee.
If I gained any wisdom or insight about this whole in the past year...
Well, go figure it out for yourself.
Because I have better things to do (or not do) than sit around here handing you platitudes on damned silver platter.
And get off my lawn...

Macho Fern/Martha Monday
Yeah, that is Martha Stewart showing off a macho fern.
It is actually called a macho fern.
I wasn't aware of that being a thing 'til right now.
Perhaps they are named after the great Macho Man Randy Savage?
Feel free to submit pic's of your own macho ferns.

Jokers
It's always been a joke, but I am not sure the the joke is on...
That Jimi statue is outside what used to be my office, by the way.
That was another life, another time...
(Comparatively, I now realize Seattle winter ain't that bad.)

Thrasher Thursday
Went over to some surf fest thing, in Newport, last weekend.
Cool to see some folks ripping on this here ramp.
The rest was sort of weird, but I don't want to bag on whatever those folks had going on.
They're doing something and that's rad.
Vintage surfboard show, some old cars, this ramp, beer garden, food vendors...
Hosted in an old fort.
It sounds cool on paper, right?
Also, I am now limiting any trips to Newport to October-March.
Double-stupid traffic. Nope, not gonna do it...

Creator of Icons
If you have been anywhere near a skateboard in the last 30 years, or so, you have probably seen Jim Phillips' artwork.
Maybe you didn't know it...
Here is an interview with the guy.

Summer
Suppose I am down for a good fair, or festival, or something...
It is summer after all.
Feel kinda obligated to do that shit.
Sweat.
Eat fried everything.
Petting zoo action.
Wander.
Look.
Ride sketchy rides.
Bust a 40 in a bag.
Smile at a stranger.
Weave through crowds.
Sit on a curb.
Soak it in.
That might be my Ohio talking, right there...

Happy 4th
Every year, I try to come up with an image that really encapsulates the majesty and glory of this great nation, for Independence Day.
I think this one does quite nicely...

Screw It
I think I have mentioned before, my hesitation on this whole taking over the world business...
Frankly, I just don't like people that much and assuming a dominating command of all things global, it involves a lot of people management.
Not sure those "soft skills" are really my strong suit...
Especially after this week.
You goddamned people are nuts.
Anyway, the moon base is in good shape, so I am just going to hang out there for a while.
It's hard to go out to dinner there, sure, but there are a lot less batshit-whacko-loons there too.
For the moment, all plans to take over the world are on hold.
You people can have it...
